Quote preparation

ForgeLink Sourcing compares quotations on one scope

ForgeLink Sourcing lines up alternative factory quotations. It is an independent sourcing service, it is not affiliated with the searched name, and it does not claim authorized dealer status.

Each supplier is asked to price one written scope: primary frame, secondary framing, envelope, doors, engineering papers, freight, and the work that stays with the buyer. A low shell number is not placed next to a turnkey total.

Lock the frame before the number

Suppliers receive the same length, width, eave height, bay spacing, and clear span. If a crane is planned, the brief names capacity, runway and the crane/impact criteria separately from other collateral loads before award. Hot-rolled steel and cold-formed steel members are identified by the supplier, not assumed from a family name.

Openings, canopies, and mezzanines are listed as their own lines. Leaving them as "standard" lets two quotations describe different buildings while looking similar on a summary page.

Separate envelope, energy, and fire notes

The quote states whether the roof and walls are bare sheeting, a liner, or insulated metal panel, and which thermal transmittance or R-value is being offered. Energy rules depend on climate and occupancy, so the desk does not declare a package compliant from a product family alone.

Fire-resistance rating, interior finish, and occupancy are recorded when the buyer knows them. If they are unknown, the quotation is marked incomplete instead of being treated as ready to award.

Write logistics as their own costs

Quantity is a count of buildings or modules, with the unit system named. Destination includes the ZIP code and any limit on truck length. Transport envelope, unloading, and a crane lift plan are either in the supplier price or assigned to the buyer in writing.

Freight, duties, taxes, and erection stay off the material line when they are not included. That is how a buyer avoids comparing a kit price with a delivered and installed price.

Scope groups every quotation should answer

Items to mark included, excluded, or open. Values come from the buyer brief and the supplier reply, not from this page.
Geometry
Footprint and eave heightBuyer length, width, and clear height, plus future expansion if a frame must accept it.
Bay spacing and clear spanColumn layout and the aisle or aircraft clearance that cannot be blocked.
Design loadsDesign live load, design dead load, wind speed, wind exposure category, ground snow load, seismic design category.
Envelope and site
Roof and wallsPanel type, coating, insulation, openings, and any stated thermal transmittance.
Foundation interfaceWho designs the foundation, which reactions are supplied, and what the buyer builds locally.
Commercial linesMaterial, freight, installation, permits, and taxes kept as separate amounts with currency and Incoterm or delivery point.

Standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, AWS D1.1, IAS AC472, and ISO 9001 are documents to request for the quoted system and the project jurisdiction. A mention on this website is not evidence that a supplier holds them.

Questions while the brief is still open

Scope

Which costs have to be quoted by every supplier?

Primary frame, purlin and girt, roof and wall assembly, doors, engineering drawings for that system, and the delivery point. Installation, foundation, utilities, and permits are included only when the buyer put them in the scope. Otherwise they are exclusions.

Which exclusions need their own confirmation?

Anchor design, slab, crane beam, HVAC, electrical rough-in, fire protection, and site civil work are frequent gaps. Each exclusion needs an owner and a note on whether the buyer will hire it locally.

Evidence

What should be checked before an alternative is accepted?

The supplier name, the member schedule, the load criteria used, the coating, the warranty text, and a statement of what was substituted. A general catalog page is not a project calculation.

Can two quotes be ranked on price alone?

Only after dimensions, quantity, currency, destination, and shell versus turnkey scope match. If one price is material-only and another includes erection, they are different purchases.

Hand the same brief to the quoting factories

Tell ForgeLink Sourcing the use, the loads you already have, the destination, and the scope you want priced. The desk will not invent a code approval or a savings figure.

  • One geometry and one load set for every reply
  • Shell, delivered, installed, and turnkey kept on separate lines
  • Documents requested for the quoted system and jurisdiction
  • Buyer approval before a substitution is accepted
